Mauritania, Nouakchott – July 3, 2018

During the African Union Summit, which was held on 1 and 2 July in Nouakchott, a new initiative has emerged: the launch of the State of the African Diaspora, presented in public and during a press conference in the prestigious setting of the International Conference Center.

In December 2014, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who then presided over the Union African, had mandated Louis-Georges Tin, president of the CRAN (Federation of Afrodescendants of France), to set up the institutions of the African Diaspora, and to “give shape” to this reality, which exists in the constitution of the African Union since 2003, but which had never been created effectively.

Louis-Georges Tin set up a government and several projects of development. The whole process was presented to President Aziz, who validated the accomplished, and invited His Majesty and Louis-Georges Tin, Prime Minister of the State of the African diaspora, to formalize the new state in the framework of the African Union Summit, drop down in his country.

During this summit, the Prime Minister was able to exchange ideas with many heads of state like Mahamadou Issoufou, the president of Niger, Macky Sall, the President of Senegal, or Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, President of Mali. These meetings allowed to envisage future cooperation between the continent and the Diaspora. Moreover, the President Aziz insisted on formally presenting the State of the African Diaspora and its leaders to Emmanuel Macron, President of France.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister congratulated Emmanuel Macron on the return of treasures looted during Colonization. This is a campaign that was launched by Louis-Georges Tin, at a time when he was president of CRAN. Emmanuel Macron accepted this request in November 2017, and this campaign has now expanded to other countries, thus becoming one of the most flagship for the State of the African Diaspora.
